Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Headteacher:

Holy Family is a two form entry Catholic primary school for children 4 – 11yrs old. The school has an extensive and attractive site, which includes several acres of playing fields, an outdoor amphitheatre, pirate ship, climbing space and outdoor specialist music area.

Our Early Years environment is Outstanding  and has a large dedicated outdoor space designed by specialists in early development and created by a local artist. Our Early Years Team has been graded as Outstanding and their focus is on the development of the whole child.

The Key Stage Two building comprises eight classrooms,a library and a Breakfast and After School Clubs. We have a large hall for gathering our whole school community.  The classrooms are self-contained units with their own cloakrooms and toilet facilities and direct access to outside teaching spaces and play areas.

The younger children (Reception, Year1 and Year 2) are based in the Key Stage One building, which has been subject to a million pound refurbishment programme. Our IT facilities are modern and meet the needs of the new, rigorous computing curriculum. There are two mixed ability classes in each year group, and teachers plan together. We are developing a creative, skills based Learning Challenge Curriculum and we involve the children in planning through Learning Ladders. We are a National Support School and as such support other schools in challenging circumstances. We welcome visitors from both our local authority and other external authorities. Our Executive Headteacher works as a supporting Headteacher and Ofsted Inspector and is well supported by a strong staff including a Head of School.

We are committed to enriching the curriculum - theme days and weeks are a feature of school life, as are visits by theatre groups and professional artists and musicians. We regularly visit places of interest both within and outside the local area. The children have a wide access to music, with the youngest children taking part in professional ‘developmental music’, Y1 and Y2 learn the recorder, Y3 – 6 all learn an instrument. Additionally we have a drumming academy and a music tech mix club.  A wide range of extra- curricular clubs, led by specialists and school staff, are also on offer.

Our Catholic ethos is at the heart of everything we do, and we have a very close relationship with our parish church. We believe that our mission is to guide our children in their journey towards a closer loving relationship with God. We have a tradition of fundraising for charities through various events.

We have a large and friendly performing staff team. We are committed to ongoing staff development and host many Continuing Professional Development events.
